Concepts of equality, fairness and change are in our daily vernacular. Often making it difficult to have an honest conversation about truth and connotation of differences in the human experience.
A conversation of “differences,” the ways by which we view experience, and the process of adjustment will be approached by a session focused on intercultural learning. Through guided dissection of personal cultural identity, hands-on cultural learning activities, an introduction to the five frameworks of intercultural studies as well the Development of Intercultural Sensitivity Measurement theory, we will strive to better empathize and serve both students’ and families’ social and emotional needs during cultural transition. Our dialogue will highlight the process of assimilation, reflect on the factors and historical understanding of our own lens, and explore the both challenging and rewarding reality of the space between ourselves and difference.
