With the adoption of the new 2016 Massachusetts Science and Technology/ Engineering standards, all grade levels are implementing a variety of engineering practices. Engineering experiences are most meaningful when designed from real world problems, and climate change meets that critical requirement. Participants will be taught about the dysregulation of the carbon cycle via a variety of technological tools, such as Climate Explorer and NASA Climate Images. Participants will also be provided with the resources for environmental engineering experiences, such as designing carbon capture systems for industrial and personal use. The use of hydroponic planting systems, sustainability of the world food supply, the albedo effect on solar radiation, as well as the availability of safe drinking water worldwide will be explored.
